If you met your dream spouse… like shared qualities, deen/dunya ratio, same goals, emotional understanding of each other… but they were a smoker and that was the only things stopping you, what would you do?
It’s no secret smoking isn’t good for you, but I do understand how hard it can be to kick an addiction. Would you ask them? Secretly just pray they stop? Tell them it’s a deal breaker? Just meh get over it?
Funny how some people suddenly become scholars when it comes to one topic.
When marriage is discussed, we’re told that Islam gives a wife the right to separate accommodation and that a joint family isn’t obligatory. Fair enough.
But where does that same energy go when it comes to hijab, modesty, avoiding music, or following other Islamic teachings? Somehow those become “personal choices,” but this one rule is quoted with full confidence.
If you’re going to use Islam as your standard, shouldn’t it be applied consistently rather than only when it benefits you?
Just curious to hear different opinions. Do you think people pick and choose religious teachings based on convenience, or am I missing something?
