Learn to slow down and start observing your thoughts and feelings when they arise. This is key. Becoming the observer. Not the passenger. . 2. Keep track of all the things you’re escaping in life. Monitor yourself for 24 hours. Note down the things that trigger escapism. . 3. Make a list of the things you’re running to. Food, screens, self pleasure, nicotine. Highlight the one that if you were to be rid of it, it would make the biggest impact on your life. . 4. Make a list of alternative responses to triggers. Qur’an, Dhikr, attending the masjid, deep breathing, exercise, walking outside, a cold shower… things you actually would do . 5. Make the intention to change the behaviour pattern and be ready for the next urge to escape. Plan how you will respond based on step number 3 . 6. Make sincere prayer to Allah asking for help in implementing this change. Understand He is Al Qadir — the one with boundless ability . 7. Fail and fail again until you succeed once. . 8. Remember how good it felt to succeed. . 9. Keep repeating and adapting with each trial and error. Soon you will create a system that works for you personally. . 10.
