The Prophet ﷺ said:
“O young people! Whoever among you can afford to marry, let him marry, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding chastity. And whoever is not able to marry, then let him fast, for it will be a shield for him."
(Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)
In simple words: If a person is able to marry, they should marry because it helps protect them from temptation. If they are unable to marry, they should fast regularly, as fasting helps control desires and protect one's chastity.
