Alhamdulillah for new beginnings 🕋🤝 Whether you're new to Islam or seeking guidance, here we share experiences, offer resources, and foster a sense of belonging on your unique journey as a convert.
Islam places a strong emphasis on promoting peace, justice, and social harmony.
The word “Islam” itself is related to the Arabic root s-l-m, which is associated with peace and well-being. The Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad repeatedly encouraged believers to contribute positively to society and avoid causing corruption, oppression, or unnecessary conflict.
The Quran encourages peaceful relations and reconciliation when disputes arise:
“And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allah.” (Quran 8:61)
Muslims are encouraged to seek peaceful resolutions and maintain good relations with others whenever possible.
The Quran condemns spreading corruption or disorder in society:
“Do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set right.” (Quran 7:56)
Classical Islamic scholars often interpreted “corruption” broadly to include injustice, oppression, violence, exploitation, and actions that damage social welfare.
Islam teaches that lasting peace is connected to justice:
“Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives…” (Quran 16:90)
Believers are instructed to act fairly even toward those with whom they disagree.
The Quran encourages kindness and good conduct toward people who are not hostile:
“Allah does not forbid you from being kind and just to those who have not fought you because of religion…” (Quran 60:8)
This has been understood as support for respectful and peaceful coexistence.
A common Muslim greeting is “As-salamu alaykum” (“Peace be upon you”), reflecting the value placed on wishing peace and safety for others.
Islam teaches that believers should strive to spread peace through justice, compassion, reconciliation, honesty, and service to others, while avoiding actions that create harm, oppression, or social disorder. Peace in Islamic teachings is not merely the absence of conflict, but a condition supported by justice, moral conduct, and care for the well-being of society.
