Research Paper: A Historical and Chronological Re-Evaluation of the Age of Lady Aisha (May Allah Be Pleased with Her) at the Time of Her Marriage## Objective and Scope

Canonical Hadith collections, most notably Sahih al-Bukhari—which, along with Sahih Muslim, represents the highest tier of authentic literature among the majority of Sunni scholars—record a universally transmitted narration through the scholar Hisham ibn Urwah. This narration states that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) married Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when she was six years old, consummated the marriage when she was nine, and that she remained with him for nine years.
This paper does not seek to challenge established Islamic beliefs, nor does it aim to question the authenticity of the canonical collections of Hadith. Instead, its scholarly purpose is to re-examine the understanding of this specific narration through a comparative historical methodology, cross-referencing it with evidence found in the earliest Islamic historical sources.
This study presents a scholarly view adopted by a number of contemporary thinkers and scholars (such as Dr. Tariq Al-Suwaidan and Dr. Ahmed Karima), who argue that Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) most likely entered the household of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at approximately nineteen years of age, rather than nine.

First: The Historical and Logical Context

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was renowned for her pioneering and pivotal roles in early Islam, her active participation in major historical events, and her exceptional intellectual maturity in jurisprudence and Hadith narration.
Furthermore, historical records indicate that Lady Aisha had been betrothed to Jubayr ibn Mut'im prior to her marriage to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). These social circumstances and her prior betrothal logically point to an age closer to full maturity and young adulthood, rendering the hypothesis of early childhood (the age of nine) highly unlikely.

Second: Chronological Evidence and Comparative Analysis (Relative to Asma bint Abu Bakr)

The established age gap between Lady Aisha and her elder sister, Lady Asma bint Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both), provides one of the strongest historical and mathematical arguments supporting this view:

1. Historical Consensus

Primary historical sources consistently record that Lady Asma was exactly ten years older than her sister Aisha.

2. Chronological Calculation

Year of Death: Biographical accounts state that Lady Asma passed away in the year 73 AH at the age of 100.
Age at the Time of Hijrah: By subtracting the year of her death from her total age (100 − 73 = 27), it becomes clear that Asma was 27 years old at the time of the Prophet's Migration (Hijrah).
Age at Consummation: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) consummated his marriage with Lady Aisha in the second year after the Hijrah (2 AH), which means Asma’s age at that time was 29 years.
Aisha's Age Equation: Subtracting the ten-year age difference between the two sisters (29 − 10) indicates that Lady Aisha’s age when she entered the Prophet’s household was approximately 19 years old.

Third: A Critical Review of the Chain of Transmission (Hisham ibn Urwah)

Although the aforementioned narration is recorded in the most authentic books of Hadith, scholars of ‘Ilm al-Rijal (the science of narrator evaluation and criticism) have analyzed specific circumstances surrounding its primary narrator, Hisham ibn Urwah:

1. Memory in Later Life

Biographical and historical chronicles record that after Hisham ibn Urwah relocated from Madinah to settle in Iraq later in life, his memory and precision were no longer as sharp as they had been during his youth.

2. Perspectives of Hadith Critics

Some authoritative classical reference works—such as Mizan al-I'tidal by Imam al-Dhahabi and Al-Kamil fi Du'afa' al-Rijal by Ibn 'Adi—indicate that some of Hisham’s later narrations were affected by the natural process of aging. This potentially led to discrepancies or inadvertent errors regarding specific numerical details or dates, without undermining the core essence of the narration.

Primary References## 1. Biographical and Historical Works

Al-Tabaqat al-Kubra – by Ibn Sa'd.
Usd al-Ghabah fi Ma'rifat al-Sahabah – by Ibn al-Athir.
Siyar A'lam al-Nubala' – by Imam al-Dhahabi.
(Utilized for establishing the age gap between the two sisters and Asma’s age at the time of her death).

2. Sources on Prophetic Biography and General History

Sirat Ibn Hisham – by Ibn Hisham.
Tarikh al-Tabari (History of the Prophets and Kings) – by Imam al-Tabari.
(Utilized for verifying the chronology of the Hijrah and the date of the marriage).

3. Works of Narrator Evaluation and Criticism (Jarh wa Ta'dil)

Mizan al-I'tidal fi Naqd al-Rijal – by Imam al-Dhahabi.

  • Al-Kamil fi Du'afa' al-Rijal – by Ibn 'Adi al-Jurjani.
(Utilized for analyzing the precision and memory of Hisham ibn Urwah in his later years).

Conclusion

This paper offers an academic and historical perspective grounded in authoritative Islamic references. Its primary goal is to enrich scholarly discourse and broaden the understanding surrounding the circumstances of this event based on available evidence, without compromising the authority of the Sunnah or the foundational principles of Islamic law.
And Allah knows best.

Sky Blue for Koh Ahong
By.‌🇨‌‌🇭‌‌🇮‌‌🇰‌‌🇦‌

Saturday nights in the mid-90s always had their own story.Under a clear night sky,Ahong paced back and forth beside his motorcycle. His flannel shirt was neat, his tall, burly frame looked even more dashing. But his face?Slouched.

The reason?Chika had just left the house, munching on a chocolate bar,in an outfit that made Ahong sigh.A sky blue t-shirt,sky blue jeans, even her hair clip was sky blue.

"Is it taking so long,Chik? It's rusty waiting,"Ahong grumbled, his lips parting a few inches.A habit he had when he was starting to sulk.Chika laughed softly."Yeah, the important thing is that I'm pretty. Here,do you want some chocolate?"Chika offered her remaining chocolate bar, deliberately teasing her boyfriend.

"No!Still sulking!"
"Really?Okay,go to the guy selling iced doger out front,"Chika teased, turning around and pretending to walk away.
"Hey,hey!Come here!Don't mess around!"Ahong immediately tugged gently at Chika's arm.His face immediately turned protective. His jealous nature immediately came out whenever Chika started flirting with other guys.

Chika burst out laughing, satisfied with having successfully pranked her super handsome but easily provoked Chinese boyfriend."Just kidding,Hong! You're as sensitive as a baby's bottom.Let's go!"

That night, their schedule was packed like a 90s teen's day. They initially stopped in the village square because of the KUDA LUMPING (horse dance) performance.Chika, humorous and restless, was busy cheering in the front row, even mimicking the dancer's movements and poking Ahong's waist, making the big man ticklish.

"Chika,ah! It's embarrassing to be seen,"Ahong whispered, his face flushed red.But he kept his hand firmly on Chika's fingers, afraid that his petite girlfriend would be bumped into by someone else.As generous as usual,Ahong bought up all the snacks around, from cotton candy to ICE MAMBO just because Chika said "oh,cute."

After enjoying the kuda lumping, they moved to the next field where LAYAR TANCEP (Warkop Film) was being shown (Dono,Kasino,Indro). They sat on old newspapers on the grass. The night wind blew quite hard.Chika shivered slightly, pulling her SKY BLUE shirt closer to her.

Seeing this, without a word,Ahong took off his flannel shirt and draped it over Chika's shoulders. The scent of masculine perfume mixed with hair oil immediately embraced Chika."Still cold?"Ahong asked softly, his voice softening drastically. His romantic side came out when the atmosphere was favorable.

Chika turned her head, gazing at Ahong's handsome face from the side under the dim light of the projector screen. Her playfulness suddenly evaporated, replaced by a warmth that spread through her chest."No.Thanks,Hong,"Chika whispered, then leaned her head on Ahong's broad shoulder.
Ahong smiled, embracing Chika's shoulders even tighter."Anything for you.Just don't flirt with other guys."
Chika pinched Ahong's stomach gently, making him groan softly before they both laughed together, lost in the simple yet sweet romance of the late 90s.

My dear women, Before choosing a man, make sure that he is not a Mamma's boy, Not controlled by his Parents and family. This type of man is emotionally immatured and they are not independent mentally and emotionally. They have no self identity. They will make your life hell.

What is it about toxic relationships & friendships that makes a person come back for more? 🤔

Is it the lack of self respect or something else?
