One of the most beautiful things I learned about nikah is that it is not merely a celebration, a contract, or a change of status.
It is an amanah.
An aqd in Islam is not just two people agreeing to live together.
It is the transfer of responsibility, care, protection, and guardianship.
A righteous husband is not simply a man who says “I love you.”
He is a man who says through his actions:
“I will protect you.”
“I will care for you.”
“I will be responsible before Allah for how I treat you.”
And a righteous wife is not a burden upon him.
She is an amanah entrusted to him by Allah ﷻ.
Perhaps this is why marriage in Islam is so sacred.
Because it was never only about finding someone to love.
It was about finding someone worthy of trust.
