Let’s talk about something not important
Avoid artificiality
Once I read a poem by Abu Risha and was immediately drawn to its words. I memorized the poem and studied Abu Risha's style. A few days later, I had to present a poem at a recitation ceremony in an educational institution.
Then I tried to imitate Abu Risha's style - but the only problem was that I was not Abu Risha. That is why the words that came out were incoherent and in a large sense the poetry was stale, dull and tasteless. From that day on, I stopped imitating other people's styles. I started writing according to what I thought and in this way I was able to spontaneously convey my personality in my poetry.
Once I prayed behind an imam in Jeddah. He was also trying to imitate a famous reciter, but he was nowhere near achieving the desired result. His voice was very different from the famous reciter's voice, and his attempt at imitation seemed visibly or blatantly artificial. It was not easy for me to tolerate his efforts; for I always felt how hard he was trying to achieve similarity [i.e., I could understand that he was trying hard to recite like (the famous reciter), and I found it funny and annoying.] I realized that Allah has created every person with special qualities, characteristics and talents.
“To each of you We have prescribed a law and a clear (or straight) path.” (5-Surah Al-Ma'idah: Verse-48)
If you want to be excellent at something, follow a method that suits both your nature and your ability (or skill).
Say: "Every person acts according to his nature." (17-Surah Bani Isra'il: Verse-84)
