Week 5 complete ~ Day 63 | 158h18m
This week in SQL, I learned how to use CASE, used it with aggregate functions (MAX and MIN), and found out that it is very similar to the Conditional Column and Custom Column in Power Query — all of which read almost like plain English.
I also learned NULL handling: IS NULL / IS NOT NULL / COALESCE. NULL means an empty or missing value; the first two check whether a value is missing and filter the rows accordingly, while COALESCE replaces a NULL with a chosen value. Moreover, I learned how to build a table and insert multiple rows into it using CREATE TABLE / INSERT INTO.
On the Excel side, in Power Query, I learned how to add a Conditional Column and a Custom Column after cleaning a messy table using Trim, Clean, Capitalize Each Word, Replace Values, Change Type, and Remove Duplicates. Furthermore, I can now use formula-based Conditional Formatting confidently.
On the IELTS side, the recently added writing practice now brings together grammar, generating my own idea-bank arguments, rephrasing them, and then writing a full PEEL-structured paragraph. This week I also completed my fifth and final General Training essay type, so I have now practised all five. All of this felt a bit taxing at first, especially in the beginning, because I was not used to writing for 40 minutes without a break and then doing the related tasks. Thankfully, I quickly adapted. I even completed a full lesson on a 24-hour shift day, because I always endeavour to remind myself of the goal ahead of me — and, most importantly, of the fact that learning has become a daily habit that I am genuinely proud of.
