As a single parent, does anybody else's child prefer the other parent?

A little re-cap, I'm a mum to a 6 year old, and for years, my son has always prefered to be with his dad. He spends the weekends at his dads, and weekdays with me. I do the school runs, amongst other things throughout the week. My son is perfectly fine when i get him from school on Mondays after his dad drops him off, but now I'm facing a new issue. This started in the Easter holidays, my son didn't want to come home to me. It makes me feel sad, a lot. I feel like I'm not wanted by him. Anyway, he get's sad/upset a lot, cries so much. I usually just let him go back to his dads. I feel guilty for having him with me if he doesn't actually want to be here. Regardless of how I feel, I put his mental/emotional needs first, so he's at ease. As its holidays, his dad attempted to drop him off yesterday, our son was clearly upset/distraught. As soon as he came in the house, he opened the door and ran to his dad. My sons NEVER done this before. I felt defeated in that moment but didn't want to show my emotions. I just said to him, 'you can go with your dad, it's okay'. He left with his dad. It was heartbreaking to watch, and you can only imagine how I felt in that moment. I'm already on my own anyway, I don't have people around me.

Does anybody else go through things like this? It would be nice to hear from others. X

Being a single parent is all about strength. The strength to show the world that you'll do whatever it takes to ensure your kids have everything they need.
