Some souls just understand each other.

I am autistic (high-functioning). I have tried to form relationships. But the talking stages have always failed, disallowing me to even proceed to the topic of getting married. I don’t understand the whole “talking stage”, I don’t understand the whole “parents bring a proposal”, I don’t understand the traditional way of finding a partner through parents. I just don’t understand how to make all that work. Yes, I do not how they work, but I don’t understand how to make them work for me. I have tried to put finding a partner aside and instead form friendships. Friendships don’t work out either. I am always taken advantage of emotionally or I get misunderstood due to my autism.

My therapist keeps advising me to go out and socialize. How do I explain to her that I just can’t do that - that I am too socially awkward. However, I still step out of my comfort zone and go out, but yknow how people treat you when they sense you are different? I have faced that repeatedly.

Can anyone relate? I feel alone in this experiences as though no one else will ever understand.
